Milo The Jumper is a unisex jumper based on the same cables used for Milo The Cardigan. Australians love a good hot cup of Milo (first developed in Australia in 1934) and its sweet chocolate goodness is something that I have come to associate with coziness and a bit of indulgence. This jumper is meant to bring the same comfort to the wearer and hours of enjoyment to the knitter.

DESCRIPTION

Milo is worked seamlessly from the bottom up in a handsome combination of cables and reverse stockinette stitch. The body is worked in the round to the under arms and then the front and back are worked flat with sloped bind offs used to shape the shoulders. The modified dropped shoulder construction brings a better fit.  After the sleeve cap is shaped with German short rows worked flat, the remainder of the sleeves are then worked in the round. While Milo is a unisex jumper with consistent chest measurements, a men’s sleeve option is provided for working the sleeve decreases over a longer number of rows to accommodate a longer arm length. As the sleeves are worked from the shoulder towards the cuffs, the length is easily customised.

TECHNIQUES

Cable work

German short-rows

Sloped bind off: Work the first bind off row at the garment edge as usual. One row before the next bind off row, work to the last stitch but don’t work it, leaving it on the left needle and turn. Your unworked stitch is now on your right needle. Slip the first stitch from the left needle purlwise. Pass the unworked stitch of the previous row over the slipped stitch (the first stitch is bound off). Bind off the remaining stitches as usual. Repeat until you have bound off your entire sloped edge.
