100% Australian. 50% SRS Merino, 40% Huacaya alpaca and 10% Suri alpaca. Single-origin sourced from ethical and sustainable producers.
Great Southern Yarn’s SRS Merino comes from Mount Bodangora Merino, where the Lyons Family, a six-generation merino stud, are committed to an ethical and sustainable approach to animal welfare. Mount Bodangora is part of the ‘SustainaWOOL’ integrity scheme, an accreditation program run by Italian woollen mills to ensure a high standard of care for the sheep and their environment. The Lyons Family run a mob of 350 sheep especially for Great Southern Yarn to supply us a longer length fleece of around 100mm or four inches to create the best of yarns.
Our Huacaya alpaca comes from Mossvale Alpacas in Tasmania. Mark Jessup is President of the Tasmanian Alpaca Association and he and his wife Helen, carefully select their best fleeces for GSY. Their property is nestled on the Huon River and is the closest we have seen to a holiday camp for alpacas.
Our Suri alpaca comes from Banjo Ridge Alpaca Farm in Dungog NSW, local to Great Southern Yarn. Bronwen Harrigan and her children love their alpacas and produce a wonderful silky fleece for GSY.

Great Southern Yarn comes in an extensive range of natural and hand-dyed colours. The colour range is inspired and named after Australian female artists and their paintings. There are a number of knitting patterns designed to show off the colour combinations and the quality of the yarn.
