“Mary Lou’s Brindabella Shawl is a great first lace pattern project. Each lace panel is different, with large sections of garter stitch in between. This is ideal for advanced beginners but with enough interest for experienced knitters.” Jennifer of Great Southern Yarn
This pattern is designed for two 100 gram skeins of Elizabeth Macarthur 100% SRS Merino single spun 4 ply (fingering weight).
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
96” (240 cm) from side to side and 21” (52 cm) from top to bottom at the deepest point.
Needles: US 7/4.5mm or size needle required to get gauge.
KNITTING NOTES
The shawl is constructed by casting on a few stitches, then increasing stitches at one edge of the piece, creating an asymmetrical triangle. Each lace section is a variation on the traditional Old Shale (sometimes called Feather and Fan) pattern, providing a perfect opportunity for beginners to see how slight variations can alter the appearance of the lace. The pattern keeps it simple – there are no increases in the lace sections, as their lateral spread keeps them even with the garter stitch section on either end.
